A high-power resistor using thick film technology to provide stable resistance, excellent thermal conductivity, and reliability in compact form.

A Thick Film Power Resistor dissipates high power levels while maintaining stable resistance. Manufactured with thick film technology, it uses resistive paste screen-printed onto a ceramic substrate and fired at high temperatures. This construction provides excellent thermal conductivity, reliability, and compact size, making it ideal for power supplies, motor drives, industrial controls, audio equipment, and high-current applications.

Process description

Substrate preparation

A high-grade ceramic substrate (usually alumina) is cleaned and prepared to ensure strong adhesion of the resistive and conductive pastes.
Screen printing of resistive and conductive pastes

Conductive pastes (silver/palladium, gold, or copper-based) are screen-printed to form interconnect traces and terminations. Thick-film resistive pastes are printed to define individual resistor elements within the network.
Drying and firing

Printed layers are dried and fired at high temperatures (typically 850-900 °C) in a controlled atmosphere. This creates a fused, stable resistive film and conductive paths.
Laser trimming

Precision laser trimming is performed to tune resistor values to tight tolerances, ensuring accurate electrical performance across the network.
Terminal

On the trimmed component the electrical pin will be inserted and soldered.
Protective coatings and marking

A protective overglaze or epoxy coating is applied for environmental and mechanical protection. Networks may be marked for traceability and identification.
Electrical testing

Each resistor and the entire network undergo continuity, resistance value, tolerance, and insulation tests to guarantee compliance with specifications.
